The Field of Medicine Has a Place For Everyone

 

Below you can find some of the many possible careers that are found in the medical field!

Requirements

1) Earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) OR Earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 2) Pass the NCLEX-RN exam administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCBSN) 3) Meet all of the requirements to become a nurse outlined by the state's licensing body (state board of nursing)

Nurse

As a registered nurse you will have a number of responsibilities to ensure the safety of your patient. Some of these responsibilities include conducting physical exams,  administering direct care  to injured, disable, or ill patients, and much more depending on which hospital you are employed at.

Requirements

1) Must be a registered nurse (RN). 2) Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). 3) Complete an NP-focused graduate master’s or doctoral nursing program. 4) Pass a national NP(Nurse Practitioner) board certification exam.

Nurse Practitioner

Nurse Practitioners provide a full range of primary, acute and specialty health care services. Some of these services include performing  diagnostic tests such as x-rays, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions, and prescribing medications. A Nurse Practitioner’s responsibilities are not just limited to these jobs, instead they perform a wide variety of more jobs depending on the hospital.

Requirements

1) Minimum 4 year degree. 2) Complete a number of specified hours working in direct patient care.3) Earn a master’s degree from a program accredited by the ARC-PA. 4) Earn a state license and a passing score on the national certifying exam.

Physician Assistant

Physician Assistants can be found in a wide variety of buildings including  hospitals, doctors’ offices, outpatient clinics, urgent care clinics, etc. Physician Assistants can have responsibilities ranging from taking evaluations of patients, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing medications and much more.

Requirements

1) Obtain a Certified Medical Assistant certificate. 2) Earn an associates degree in medical assisting. 3) Pass the CMA(AAMA) exam.

Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants can be found in hospitals working along side physicians and nurses performing tasks  appointed to them. Some of these tasks include implementing patient data in the computer, prepping for examinations, taking patient’s blood for further analysis and much more. 

Requirements

1) Obtain a high school diploma or GED equivalent. 2) An associates degree or higher is typically expected by employers. 3) Pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). 4) Not mandatory, but preferred is obtaining the Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.

Surgical Scrub Technician

Scrub technicians, also referred to as surgical technologists, assist surgeons in the operating room. The main focus of a scrub tech is to provide sterile equipment to the surgeon while surgery is being performed, scrub techs also help prepare the patient for surgery, transfer the patient to the operating table, sterilize equipment to be used in the surgery, maintain the cleanliness of the operating room, and help the surgical team sterilize themselves before entering the operating room.

Requirements

1) Obtain an associates or bachelors degree. 2) Go through a fellowship program which offers training and experience. 3) Obtain certification by the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ASET) or the American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring (ABNM).

Neuromonitoring Technician

Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) involves the monitoring of the central and peripheral nervous systems of patients undergoing surgical procedures such as orthopedic spinal correction , cranial neurosurgery, and interventional radiologic procedures.

Requirements

1) Earn a doctor of physical therapy degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education-accredited physical therapist education program. 2) Pass a state licensure exam

Physical/Occupational Therapist

Physical therapist usually begin their work by receiving  referrals from doctors about a patient’s history. From there, physical therapists perform a physical examination to gain a better understanding of a patient’s injury in order to begin a treatment plan. The hope of the treatment plan is to restore functionality by improving movement and increasing motion range in specific body areas.

Requirements

1) Obtain an associates or bachelors degree. 2) Receive certification from The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). 3) Apply for and Obtain a State License to become a respiratory therapist.

Respiratory Therapist

Respiratory therapists work with doctors and nurses to treat patients who suffer from breathing complications. Respiratory Therapists can be found in hospitals  administering oxygen and managing  ventilators.
